My father gave me this watch for Christmas when I was 14. I took it out of the box a year later and it had kept up with the correct time during that entire period. I have been wearing it ever since, and I only ever take it off when I shower or go to the gym. The face is a little scratched, but you can't see it at all unless you hold it up to sunlight. I've dropped and kicked this watch around so many times, yet it has remained as sparkling and beautiful as ever. My dad has had his Citizen Eco-Drive for well over 20 years and it still looks and works the same as it did when he first purchased it. I recommend this watch to anyone and everyone, it is worth every cent, I plan on giving one to my boyfriend for Valentine's day this year!

I first bought a similar product, EW8842-57D, that I had to return within 30 days because it did not live up to the "scratch-resistant" feature as advertised. But I so love this feature of not needing to buy batteries ever. I was so looking forward to using this watch for years, but after having seen it acquire scratches within weeks, I figured it would look so old within a year that it might not be pleasing to the eyes at all.
I gave it a second chance. As soon as I received my refund, I ordered a similar looking watch as the one on this page (EW8464-52D), which looks so elegant, and the slim feature would complement my slim wrist. I was so happy it did seem scratch resistant (same "durable, hardened mineral crystal" window as the first). Bought that April 4th. It is not May 30th, and while I was enjoying my lunch break at work out at a picnic table, I noticed against the bright sunlight that I had several scratches on my watch! Now I do not wear my watches everyday. I mostly keep them on the windowsill (in the case of eco-drive) or in a drawer. I never use them when I have to do some rough work like gardening. I never wear long-sleeves with anything that could scratch it (but what clothing material would scratch that??? I don't even have a zipper at the area!). I would have wanted to return this, but it is beyond the 30-day full refund, plus it did not have that "scratch-resistant hardened mineral crystal" on its product description on this particular model.
Too bad I was already considering getting another eco-drive with a second-hand (good for nursing purposes) because this present one is too dressy/formal looking. I was just waiting for my next paycheck...but I decided against that now.
I wish Seiko would come up with something that will rival this eco-drive feature. I have a Seiko that used batteries, which I have had for 15 years now, but the machinery probably just gave up even with new batteries. Other than that problem, it has remained scratch-free, still two-toned (the gold plated part never lost its sheen!).
I really am not impressed now with Citizen.
