Just got this lovely watch for a pre-XMAS birthday. Opted for the pink dial, but otherwise same as shown. Only disappointment is cannot see dial in the dark. Maybe it has not received enough charge yet, but I'm not sure it even has that feature. Would have made it a "5 star" in my book, if had dial visible at night.

i hate to say this because it is a beautiful watch--but the diamonds fell out...had to return it...luckily i bought it at Macys and bought the warranty...it was over 30 days and they refunded my money after i complained that they wanted to send it back to the company for repair...3-4 weeks without a watch, i don't think so, so i just got my money back.

The Citizen Eco-Drive Riva WR100 is a nice watch. It's just what I had been wanting: stylish, feminine, & eco-driven. Having only been wearing it for approx 1 month, I can't say what long term durability is like. At this moment, I'm happy with it enough to say I would buy one again.

"Citizen Eco-Drive Riva -- Just Fancy Enough" 2008-07-30
By Smilodon (New Mexico)
I've had this watch for about a month, and so far it's keeping perfect time, despite the fact that I sometimes leave it in a drawer away from the light for a day or more. It's very attractive: the diamonds around the bezel, tiny though they are, give the face some pizzazz, but are not overwhelming. The watch fits in both at work and for more formal settings.

Pros: Attractive mother-of-pearl face, diamond bezel, both satin finish & shiny silver links on band make it more interesting than it appears in the picture, and of course eco-drive!

Cons: A bit heavier than I expected (case is pretty thick), if you're looking for individually discernible diamonds you'll be disappointed, window for date is so small as to be mostly unreadable (but who really uses a watch to find out what date it is anyway?)

By M. Greeley (Houston, TX)
I was searching for a watch that I could wear to work and on the weekends running around with the family. This Citizen watch was the exactly look I wanted. It is feminine, but too girly. It is very lightweight and looks great. It is only slightly water-proof. According to the manual, it is OK if you are washing your hands and some water is splashed on it, but don't submerge it in water. I am not an avid diver or anything, but it would be nice to know I could jump in a pool without ruining my watch. I love the fact that I don't have to buy batteries.

This watch is exactly as it appears in the photo, it shines and has no blemishes or scratches in the band. I am a petite woman, very small wrists and small hands and have been looking for a moderately-sized watch. I was hesitant about ordering something I could not try on first, but this watch manages to incorporate an updated and stylish look with a slimmer profile than many other the watches I have considered. It is not at all clunky and is easy to read and comfortable to wear. I haven't experienced any skin pinching or wrist hair grabbing!

"Good watch, still less than I expected though." 2009-12-25
By Nick R. (TX)
First, I'll mention a few good things about the watch.

Supposedly, I should never have to "charge" this watch, which is pretty convenient. Also, I think it's a pretty good looking watch. After a few days of use, I haven't yet noticed any scratches on the band or face. And no, I don't really take care of watches. The clasp seems pretty easy to close. I've seen some watches where the clasp seems complicated, i.e. some ESQ watches. I think the face is a pretty good size, but please take into account that I do have a smaller wrist. The smaller face could be considered a disadvantage to some people.

Now a few of the cons:

I read that you can't change the time between the hours of 9PM and 4AM. That's true. It's in the manual. Kinda stupid if you ask me. Second, the watch does pull the hair on my arm. I don't have much hair, so it's not really a problem for me. For those of you who do have hairy arms, I would consider another watch. Also, I have a smaller wrist, and after moving enough links the watch fits a bit funny. It's a little uncomfortable, but maybe it's the shape of my wrist? I had a problem with the pins that hold the links on the band together. When I had them changed, the woman who changed them said the links tended to slip in and out of the band too easily. Maybe it was something she did? I haven't really noticed it. Finally, the band, to me, is a bit stiff and provides a certain restriction to movement. For example, some watch bands can fold and lie flat if you were to set them down on the band, face up. This one cannot lie flat, you would have to put on some sort of display or lay it on its side, which explains some discomfort.

All in all, I would say my recommendation on the watch would vary from person to person. I think cosmetically, I would recommend it. If your looking for a comfortable watch, I would probably recommend looking for another watch. But for $175, I'm fine with my purchase.

The watch looked as advertised but didn't work. The date/time setting was wrong when we got the watch. I followed the instructions and set up the date to present to my husband for his b-day two days later. Well, it was right for half a day and next morning it didn't change, my husband set it up again, half a day later it was wrong again. When we tried to set it up, it was not moving. In addition, it really pulled my husband's hair and he had to actually shave his arm. That was weird. It's going back. Citizen -- I am not a citizen anymore!

 "Scratches" 2009-12-04
By J. Chen
I bought this watch as a gift for someone who's old Seiko was just that, getting old! I researched around and thought that something Kinetic or Solar would be ideal since changing batteries every so often is annoying. The Kinetics were expensive and bulky, so I settled for Solar and thus Citizen's Eco-Drive. Additionally, I was looking for a watch that could get wet. Make sure you read up on what the water-resistant ratings are. You'll want at least 100 Meters if you expect to get your hands wet once in a while. The ratings are based in still water, so it's not really accurate for normal use.

I thought this watch looked great and when I was searching for it, I wanted something light since the person was used to a light watch (watches used to be light back in the day). I also figured that since it was Titanium, it'd be more light AND durable than Steel.

Unfortunately, a few months after the user wore the watch, the watch has many little scratches all over the band. I'm not sure if it's just that one or not, but it doesn't look as good as when it was new and shiny. The only thing I can attribute it to is the Titanium.

Looking back, I think a Steel watch would have better durability (I have a steel one). I don't think the weight issue is a big issue since you'll get used to it after a while and it's good exercise!

Overall, it's still a great watch in every respect except the scratches on the band. I don't know if the user rubbed against a lot of metal or not, but just keep that in mind. By keeping your mind open to Steel ones, since I don't think weight is really an issue, your searchable universe should expand a lot you should be able to find a Steel Citizen Eco-Drive watch that looks simple and good.

Best of luck and Happy Shopping!

Bought it for my father as an xmas present, hope he'll like it. It pretty big/massive looking yet its lightweight thanks to being made from titanium. Came in a really nice, big and fancy looking box, a present in itself. The Eco-Drive feature is really nice and it does work. The watch was in its box for who knows how many days and when i opened and started it it worked right away. It was illuminated for maybe 5 minutes before I put it back in its box. Then a couple of hours later I showed it to my wife and noticed that it was keeping time nicely - using energy it could get for 5 min of meager illumination. Nice! :)

This was a nice watch while it lasted. Then it died soon after the warranty expired (naturally).

(The crown/setting knob came out completely, then condensation began to develop, then the watch stopped working altogether.)

I liked the watch and thought it was worth repairing via Citizen. But they wanted more than the watch costs new to perform the repairs. Now it sits in a drawer.

Citizen apparently makes disposable watches -- when they break, just buy a new one.

I've indeed bought a new watch, and it wasn't a Citizen.

By L.K. (georgia)
This two tone watch complements silver or gold jewelry

and looks like bracelet and sometimes I stack it with

my gold tennis bracelet or a silver bracelet,

and also looks well with jeans or a dress.....

I have had it since May 09 & keeps accurate time and

I have no complaints...another plus is

I don't have to buy batteries!!!! The numbers are dainty

in a goldtone & the face of the watch has a pearly

look background. I don't have a problem seeing close up

but someone that does may have to look closer at the dial.

I like the two tone watch so when I wear silver or gold I

don't have to change watches..

 "Lovely feminine watch" 2009-06-21
By L. Kirk (Maryland, USA)
I ordered this watch as a gift for a friend. I previously purchased (and reviewed) a different Citizen Eco-Drive watch, and based on my good experience with that item, I purchased this one.

The watch is heavy for its size, which suggests a solid quality. The watch is quite a bit smaller than I expected, but not "dainty" small. However, it is definitely a feminine sized watch.

There is no date or day display, and no second hand.

The water resistance rating is resistant only, meaning not suitable for submersion (nor for bathing, swimming, or showering), only for the occasional splash. This is consistently incorrect in the information panel.

While it is 2-toned (silver and gold tones) the silver is definitely predominant, and the gold serves as an accent tone. Neither metal is pure.

It is an attractive and feminine watch, well made and durable. I would classify it as business casual up to moderately dressy.

Being on time is where I have always wanted to be. I adore my Citizen Eco Drive watch. I just made the purchase recently, and when I rec'd it, I set the time and no fuss and it keeps perfect time. No more checking the cell phone for time when there are no clocks, and most of all no more batteries. I am the owner of 6 watches with dead batteries. I give it a five star rating. I did have to have a couple links removed, but that has been for all watches I have owned.

I certainly recommend it for purchase. Matter of fact, I plan to buy another this fall.

 "Gorgeous, stylish watch" 2009-12-26
By K. Hoover (Reno, NV)
This watch is beautiful in person! I just received it for Christmas- taking pins out was very easy, if you know generally how to do it, you shouldn't have to take it to a jeweler. I've been wearing a much larger-face solar powered watch for years now, but wanted something with a metal band to look more "professional" and this watch is perfect. The 24-hour time numbers are great, the watch was easy to set and easy to change the date, the crown has two "stops"- one for changing the date, one for changing the time. It looks beautiful and professional, I really love it. It's not large on the wrist at all, nor heavy. Easy to expose it to light, it was fully charged when I opened it. If it is running low, the second hand will jump 2 seconds every time instead of 1, so stick it under a lamp if that happens and it will recharge. It's not heavy on my wrist at all, very thin (I'm going to have to get rid of the tan lines from my thicker band!). It's lovely, I'm very happy with it.

My husband bought this watch for me and I love it. If you are like me and can make a regular watch bettery go dead in a few weeks due to high acidity in your skin then this is the watch for you. I was extreemly pleased to find a watch that had all 12 numbers on it. Not a very easy thing to find now unless you want a digital watch. The only thing I wish was better is the face is a little small and the mens watch face was too big. I did get the ladys watch and love it. I can spend 10 min in the sun or just driving to work and the watch will stay charged for up to 6 months I am not sure if that claim is true as I never take it off.

 "elegant and sporty" 2009-09-24
By Heidi Medlin (Socorro, NM USA)
This is a great watch. If you are looking for something stylish yet sporty (but not tooooo sporty), this is the watch for you. It's the perfect size for a lady's wrist and the best part about this watch is, you never have to change the battery. The hands will glow in the dark for hours after a good light bath and there are no any annoying ticking sounds from the hand movement. The center part of the band is brushed stainless steel while the outer edges of the band are shiny. The band will scratch fairly quickly, which over time will give the watch an overall worn look. If you don't like the "worn look" then don't buy this watch. The face is very durable, I have yet to scratch that part, and I am not careful with my watches. The clasp is very strong, comfortable, and easy to use. My husband adjusted the band using a minny screw driver by popping out the pins (follow the direction of the arrows on the band itself). Be sure to keep all of the extra links from the band in case you ever need them. Also, read the directions on how to sink the time with the day. It is important that the date knows when it is am and pm, otherwise if the date thinks it is pm when it is am, the date will change in the middle of the day.

"High quality and stylish watch" 2009-12-09
By Thomas (Denver, CO)
My girlfriend wanted an elegant but practical watch that could be worn in formal as well as casual settings. This watch looks great and met that criteria perfectly. She also wanted a no-hassle watch she could rely on. This watch is a high quality Citizen Eco-Drive so it should be dependable and low maintenance.

The band does scratch pretty easily, which is too bad, but I suppose it's something to be expected of just about any watch with a metal band.

The day of the week takes a long time to completely roll over. The date is pretty quick, starts switching around 11:50 p.m. and finishes around 12:30 a.m. But the day of the week doesn't completely finish switching to the new day until about 4:00 a.m.!

Also, plan on having to adjust the date at the end of months that have more or less than 31 days in them. A pre-programmed perpetual calendar would be ideal but would surely cost more and would likely require the watch to be larger. And since I like its size as is and prefer to not pay much more for a watch, I won't complain about that.

My girlfriend really likes this watch and is very happy with it. It's a great every-day wearer that looks sharp worn with about anything (except a lot of gold, of course).

This is a high quality and stylish watch.

"sleek and silver Citizen Eco-Drive" 2009-11-26
By ashburyniran (Champaign, IL)
A stunning, clean-lined watch. I've been wearing this watch for a couple weeks now, its so comfortable I forget I'm wearing it. Nice brushed steel band, a brighter silver ring around the face - and after exposing the face to light for awhile the hands glow green in the dark, then fade, which is a cool trick. It's not too bulky/big and not too dainty/small. Out of the box, the band was too long, be prepared to get it resized if you're anywhere near a regular wrist size.

The image here shows a darker blue-gray face - in reality it's simply gray, but that doesn't detract from it in any aesthetic way. That's actually why I picked this one, for the unique gray face. And if you are wondering about how you would ever replace the uniquely shaped band if it becomes worn looking from much use (like my last Fossil watch) - Citizen watches come with a five year limited warranty and all the Citizen Worldwide Service Centers are listed in the accompanying instruction booklet - emailing them or sending it in for a replacement band would probably be the only way to get the exact same Citizen band if it's possible.

And about the "fueled by light" feature - you don't have to wonder if your watch is getting enough light and will suddenly stop from lack of charge or something - I've been wearing mine for awhile and wearing it regularly makes that a non-issue. With a full charge its supposed to last six months in the dark. No batteries ever needed. All around a handsome, understated sleek and silver watch.

I've worn this watch nearly every day for the past 4 years. It works just as well now as it did when I first received it (and I've acidentally dropped it a couple of times). It;s a little scratched now, but that is to be expected. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants a watch that is beautiful, classic and long-lasting.

"Terrific watch, but what if the band doesn't last a lifetime?" 2009-09-25
By ¤ Candi ¤ (Annapolis, Maryland)
I finally bought myself a "real" watch, rather than a throwaway. This is the one I decided on, and I am pleased with my choice, at least for now.

I really like the look of this watch--clean lines, no frills, pretty much unisex (or maybe 51% feminine). The brushed, sort of semi-matte finish on the face is very aesthetically appealing. The hands glow brightly in the dark for a while, then fade to dimmer but still visible. The day/date display is handy; I've quickly become reliant on it. The watch case is no thinner than that of a typical battery-powered watch, and it is thicker than some (like those razor-thin Skagens). But it's not bulky in look or feel.

Since I received the watch in mid-July, I've worn it essentially nonstop. It has kept perfect time and the face shows not a single scratch or sign of wear. I've developed some minor scuff marks on the watch band (visible if you look closely from a certain angle), but they're not noticeable. The clasp is secure and easy to fasten. The band is super-smooth; it has never snagged or caught on anything. The band is adjustable, but I can't attest to the ease or effectiveness of that, because I liked the way it fit me out of the box. I love that I'll never need to buy a battery for this watch and hope it continues to maintain time as it has so far.

My only concern is that as far as I can tell, there's no way to buy a replacement band. So if it gets too visibly scuffed or breaks, am I out of luck? The design in the band continues onto the case--that half-circle above and below the face is part of the case, not the band. So I'm not really sure how it would work if the band weren't an identical replacement, and an identical replacement does not seem to exist apart from the watch.

I haven't had it for any great deal of time, but I love it so far. I kind of abuse watches so I was a little hesitant about getting anything other than a typical sport watch, but I really wanted something that looked nice. This seems to be just perfect. It's not hideous or too sporty, but it seems to hold up great. It's pretty light weight (but not cheap or insubstantial feeling) and is easy to put on and remove. The whole thing looks and feels sturdy and there's nothing that seems cheap or low-quality about it (unlike a lot of other watched I was looking at in the same price range.) Both the face and band seem like they're probably at least fairly scratch resistant (no scratches so far) and I really like the brushed stainless steel look, personally.

I bought this watch through amazon one month ago when it was on sale. The shipping was very fast. I am very pleased with my purchase. The real watch looks a lot better than its picture. I am very happy with the look and quality. I got a lot compliment on this watch. I strongly recommend this watch to you.

"Nice watch - DON'T BUY FROM DEXCLUSIVE VENDOR" 2009-10-28
By K. Mayberry (Indianapolis, IN)
I bought this watch as a replacement for a lost watch which I eventually found. Consequently, I wanted to return it. I was stunned to find out that Amazon's vendor Dexclusive's return policy only allows for returns within 7 DAYS of delivery, and even then there is a restocking fee. After I wrote to the company to verify the policy and to see if there were any exceptions, I received a form email saying that someone would get back to me. They did - in the form of frequent spam. The Amazon price was only slightly less than my local department store, where I wouldn't have had this problem. I frequently buy books from Amazon, but I will think twice about any larger purchases.

 "Beautiful watch!" 2009-05-16
By A. Roman (Brooklyn, NY)
I've had this watch for close to a month now, and I am still receiving compliments. This is a watch that you can dress up or dress down. The two-tone matches both my gold and silver jewelry. It is a beautiful watch, you cannot go wrong with it.

In the dark, the arms and dots glow making it easy to tell the time.

I love the Eco-drive feature, never have to change a battery EVER!

You'll be happy you bought this watch!!

 "Almost Makes the Grade" 2008-10-17
By SMM (Los Angeles, CA. USA)
I've spent the last 8 months trying to get the right watch for me, and this watch met all my criteria. It is really pretty, 2-toned to match my gold or silver jewelry, can be worn dressy to casual, has a second hand, the contrast between the numbers (representation in this case) and the MOP face was good, it glows in the dark, the added Citizen benefit of the Eco-drive--which I love the solar power, and the calender.

Let's be clear about the calender--you can't read it. It's so hard to see. I can read the Eco-drive on the face, which is very small and light font, easier. The box is small (which probably could have been taken care of with magnification), and the contrast behind the MOP face makes it a dark small box with something written on it.

As you can see, the watch still rates 4 stars for me because the other elements are great, and I am keeping and wearing the watch. But to not be able to read the calender, to me, is a design flaw that could have easily been rectified.

 "Beautiful" 2007-12-29
By Laura (Central IL United States)
I love Citizen watches. I have had my other traditional battery watch since 1998 and nothing has gone wrong (except by my own doings.)

This watch is better looking in person than in pictures and the video. The pearl face is more iridescent. The gold on the band is more pronounced. The diamonds sparkle but are not glaring. It is enough to make it look like your every-day casual watch while also being somewhat dressed up.

The size is about medium to large for a woman's watch. When I first saw it in the case, I was a little hesitant on if it was a woman's or not. It is a lot more obvious it is a woman's when it is on; I have smallish wrists.

My watch came with a 6-year limited warranty but I don't think I will need to use it because the eco-drive is great. I have had no other problems with the other eco-drive I have owned for over 4 years.

If you like this watch in pictures and like some sparkle without being ostentatious, you will like this watch. If you are on the fence about buying it, you won't be once you have it on your wrist.

"Citizen SS two tone eco drive is a great watch!" 2009-09-08
By Mr. James Miller (Salisbury ,MD)
I purchased this watch because I wanted an Eco-Drive, and the price was perfect. The two tone watch with an almost black face is better looking on my wrist than the pictures on Amazon might lead you to believe. It is sharp, classy, yet everyday functional. The day / date setting feature was simple to do. The wife likes it too.

The Citizen Eco-Drive Aqualand stainless steel men's chronograph watch will make a powerful statement when worn with both business and casual dress, but it's made to take the punishment of deep-water diving with its 660 feet (200 meters) water resistance. It also features a depth sensor that provides an accurate reading to 125 feet and will also record your maximum depth into memory.

This watch has a large, round silver stainless steel watch case--which measures 50mm (1.96 inches) wide and 16mm (0.63 inches) deep--that's topped by a unidirectional rotating bezel with black engraved elapsed time markings. The black dial background features three subdials (for the 50-minute chronograph, 24-hour display, and seconds), large luminous dial markers, luminous white-tipped hands (with red seconds hand). It's completed by a comfortable, durable rubber strap. Other features include a date display at 3 o'clock, scratch resistant mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating, and screw-back case, screw-down crown.

This watch is powered by Citizen's unique Eco-Drive, which absorbs sunlight and any artificial light through the crystal and dial to recharge the watch continuously. With regular exposure to light, the Eco-Drive continuously recharges itself for a lifetime of use. This watch's Eco-Drive provides a 60-day power reserve, and it can be recharged with just 2 hours of exposure to light.

Summary of Features:

  • Depth display to 125 feet
  • Maximum depth memory
  • Unidirectional rotating elapsed-time bezel
  • 50-minute chronograph
  • 12/24 hour time

"Not a watch for the throw-away culture" 2009-07-21
By bfcomedywriter
If you buy this watch- get used to the idea of having it for a loooooong time. I purchased this watch in the mid-'90s while living in Hawaii. It was my second dive watch (the previous watch was also a Citizen but no longer made). That particular watch was beyond repair and I ended up buying this one. FOURTEEN YEARS later, the watch is STILL with me. I was in the Navy and have dived and surfed all over the world- this watch was with me all of the way. I've never had one issue with it- ever.

This story gets better: After 14 years of abuse, the paint had rubbed off, I knocked the glow-in-the-dark thing out of the bezel, and the band (the third band I've needed for this watch) was rubber-rotting. I sent the watch into to have the bezel and band replaced by Citizen. I received an email from Citizen stating they did not replace or repaint bezels, but they will give me an entire new housing for the price of replacing the bezel. For $116- Citizen gave me a nearly new watch- strap, crystal, metal housing, etc. The only original part of the watch is the inner workings- which I've never had an issue with.

Hopefully, I'll get another 14 years out of the watch and I'll give it to one of my kids.

 "Excellent value" 2009-06-11
By MG
I've joyfully owned this watch for 9+ years now and still love it. After innumerable diving & snorkeling excursions, swimming pools and showers, it has never missed a beat. Have enjoyed the depth meter. It's been windsurfing, hang gliding, sailing, motorcycling and in sinks of dirty dishes and still looks modern, professional, rugged and up-to-date. It's equally appropriate in the boardroom and beach. It keeps accurate time, is easy to use and is most certainly durable! I've changed bands a couple of times (the stock rubber band lasts a few years of hard use). Bands are easy to find. The orange parts are a bit faded after many hundreds of hours in direct Caribbean sun. Crystal will scratch some eventually with abuse, but it's surprisingly durable. The SS case is also not prone to scratches. I've gotten several more expensive watches in the interim (including Rolex) but have always quickly gone back to wearing this one full-time. If I lost it, I'd get the same model!

 "Tough and accurate watch" 2009-04-27
By J. Paz (Provo, UT USA)
I bought this watch in 2003, and have worn it since. I've replaced the rubber band three times, once with the stainless steel band. The stainless broke within days when I tripped and fell against a concrete and brick surface. The band and watch took the worst of it, the case was practically unscratched, the band broke a couple of links and was replaced with rubber again. The skin oils rot the rubber, the band is cheap to replace though. It wears well, the years and repeated dives and daily water immersion have not affected it. The orange of the depth gage is fading, the green glow is still noticeable in the hour dots in the dark. It keeps time well, I might correct it with my cellphone once every year or two. I recommend it and will buy another if this one dies, which I don't foresee.

"I wish I could do 4.5! Small issues, but great overall" 2008-11-12
By K. Kalani Patterson (Studio City, CA USA)
Fantastic watch! I'd give it a 5 star rating, but for one really stupid choice Citizen made: The big orange hand that looks like a second hand? It's not. It's the depth gauge needle underwater (good), but on land, that big huge hand only indicates the charge level. Important, but not nearly important enough for the most visible feature of the watch to display 99% of the time. Instead, seconds are relegated to one of the small inset dials.

Better would have been for that small inset dial to indicate charge, and the big orange hand to show seconds on land, and depth underwater. Perhaps the charge meter (useless underwater) could double for seconds once you're actually submerged... but it's lousy placement for the full time seconds display.

The watch face is somewhat busy and can be a little hard to read as a result, at times, but that could be my preference for digital (when reading), even though I prefer the look of analog.

The last other minor nit is the depth dial is displayed in 5' increments, which would be fine, except the needle also moves only in 5' increments. It "ticks" from one 5' segment to the next, so you don't know if you're at 18' or 16'. This is not mentioned in any literature I noticed, but you learn it the first time you descend and see it in action.

Overall, I love the look, and it suffices as a backup gauge, which is why I bought it, so I still like the watch. I'm just annoyed by those few flaws to an otherwise fantastic watch.
