"Nearly perfect watch for military deployments" 2009-12-09
By John T. Leibensperger (Forsyth, GA USA)
I bought this watch after going through watch after watch on military deployments. I own a much nicer Citizen Eco-Drive watch that I didn't want to risk ruining in Iraq. This is almost the perfect watch for military deployments. If it had tritium hands, I would rank it THE perfect military watch, but Citizen has yet to offer tritium that I know of. This watch keeps perfect time and extremely sturdy. The canvas band is perfect for a military watch. Rubber and leather tend to dry rot and metal bands just never seemed practical to me while deployed. The solar battery comes in handy since I have had batteries die on me in the middle of nowhere at the worst times, so an Eco-Drive watch fit my requirements to a T. I bought this watch before I knew they made a chronograph version of it, so if you want a chronograh you can find it for a few dollars more.

"Great Value and the Band is growing on me - Although the Band is Small!" 2009-12-08
By mrmooseesq (St. Louis)
I have one other eco drive watch and I love that watch. It's a bit fancier and I paid a lot more for it. This watch so far seems great. I have been wearing it most days for the past few weeks. The face of the watch is a nice classic look. I bought the watch anticipating that I would buy a black leather band at some point however now I'm not so sure. The band really horrified me at first as it looks so out of place on the watch but now I seem to like the band. It is a nice casual everyday watch with great value for a citizen eco drive. I may still replace the band someday but for now I'll keep it. I suppose the only question is whether other people look at the watch when I'm wearing it and have the same first impression I did. But in the end, that's their problem as I like the watch and I'm going to wear it! Only other caveat is the band does seem a bit small to me. I'm not a small guy but I don't believe I have an overly large wrist and I have to use the last opening on the band which does mean that the second loop for the band to go through doesn't get reached and it just moves around on the band all day. So if you do have a large wrist then for sure plan on getting a new band.

"Outstanding value for the money" 2009-12-05
By DANIEL B BLAZICH
With nearly 200 reviews of this watch I was hesitant to add my review thinking what more can be said? What I noticed amongst the different reviews is that many reviewers have individual specs that they need met to be happy. Simply telling the time accurately is not enough. So here's what I'm looking for in a watch and why this watch met my needs.

1. Very easy to read face with illumination and easily visible second hand. Chrono watches look cool, but if you haven't used a stopwatch in the last year you might as well admit to yourself its for a sophisticated look.

2. Solar power. I've joined the Army and if deployed I will have no battery problems to deal with due to abundant sunlight. On a side note, a power cell instead of a traditional battery make this watch featherweight.

3. Very slim case. This doubles the value of the watch in my book because its more comfortable to wear when wearing long sleeve shirts and especially jackets that have elastic cuffs (less snagging).

Many reviewers do not like the strap. It is thin (18mm), but I don't find the width uncomfortable. The strap out of the box is a little rigid, but again I'm fine with that. I would compare it to Doc Marten boots which are painfully stiff out of the box but when broken-in are the most comfortable boots you'll ever own. I would recommend this watch, but admittedly its not for everyone.

 "A VERY PLEASANT SURPRISE" 2009-11-30
By Lawrence Cutler
If you're tossing up whether to buy this watch or its AT0200 chronograph "big brother" from Citizen, don't hesitate to buy this "little brother". (Or maybe you'll be tempted to buy both, as I did!)

I first bought the AT0200 chronograph (I gave it 4.5 stars) and thought I'd get the BM8180-03E as a "poor cousin" for everyday use at work etc. Was I very pleasantly surprised! As other reviewers have said, it looks far better "in the flesh" than in pictures. The level of detailing and finish is very impressive, even considering its bargain price. (Why buy a $40 El Cheapo when you can have the real deal?) Somehow it looks far more refined than in the pictures, but still with a practical military look. (Maybe the polished finish helps here too, rather than the brushed low reflection finish traditionally found on military watches.)

The numbers are finely engraved and not too big. The dial is jet black (chrono is more charcoal) and has the same beautiful red second hand from the chrono. I wish the minute hand was longer so it indexed closer to the minute/hour markings, but that may not bother many users. It's still very readable at a glance, and the second hand indexes perfectly with the markings. (Some reviewers have said otherwise so maybe Citizen has a QA issue here.) Night time luminescence is adequate rather than brilliant. The crown and guard are well executed and the crystal is very clear and distortion-free. Even the case back is beautifully laser-etched with the maker's logo and model details. (The "cheap sticker" that some reviewers complain about is a removable protective film only.)

The size is just right; not a "clunker" but with enough depth and diameter to feel substantial enough. Accuracy is very good and the day-of-the-week feature is a useful bonus. (BTW, day and date are more legible than on the chrono model.) The Spanish day for the wee-hours adds to its charm, although Spanish-speakers can of course adjust it so that English appears as the "minor" language in the early hours. How many watches can claim to be bi-lingual? Ole!

Yes, I know, the green canvas band will not please everyone. For me it was too short (used last hole) and the riveted holes are too widely spaced apart; either too loose or too tight. But that can be forgiven as in every other respect, this watch is fantastic value and it's not hard to find an inexpensive band to replace it. (Mine looks great in an inexpensive and quickly fitted down-and-under one piece nylon band with adjustable buckle: for me, olive green for weekends and black for work.) If you wanted a classier-looking leather band, this watch has the looks to carry it off.

I have quite a few watches in my little collection, and this is my wear-everday-everywhere favourite: right size, right looks and right feel, all with accuracy and the reassurance that with Eco-Drive, the power won't suddenly die on you in the middle of nowhere!

 "Top Notch Watch" 2009-11-29
By Robert J. Moore (N.E. Alabama)
This is my work watch, it keeps good time with no batteries or winding. It's thin and sharp looking, I like the easy to read simple face. Just place it under a lamp when it arrives, let it charge as per directions. It's a five star to me.
